Kold Gold team · FAQ Kold Gold

A container sat at port for days because of one missing document and our client paid demurrage. What should be done before arrival?

Demurrage (from the carrier, for holding its container) and storage (from the terminal or bonded facility) are the costs that surprise people most. What works best is getting the paperwork done early:

    1. Send invoice, packing list and B/L as soon as the vessel sails, not on arrival. 2. Check classification and non-tariff requirements before arrival so no permit is missing. 3. Confirm the importer's registrations are up to date. 4. Pay duties and charges in advance so release is not delayed. 5. Have outbound trucking booked. 6. Review the free days agreed with the carrier and, if useful, negotiate them at origin.

Kold Gold coordinates this checklist with the origin partner and the allied customs broker so cargo leaves as soon as possible. Free time is set by each carrier and terminal.
