What do I need to export tequila?

Enrollment in the sector exporter registry (Tequila sector), the Tequila Regulatory Council certificate for each shipment and the Mexican export entry. At destination, an importer who meets local rules.

Can tequila be exported in bulk?

100% agave tequila must be bottled at origin, so it ships bottled. The Tequila category (at least 51% agave) can be bottled outside the appellation territory under the applicable rules.

What does the US require to import my tequila or mezcal?

The importer needs a TTB basic permit, an approved COLA for each label, FDA registration and prior notice for each shipment, and must meet the rules of the state where it sells.

Do I pay Mexico's IEPS excise tax when exporting?

Mexico's IEPS Law states the tax is not paid on the export of the goods it covers. There are documentation rules, so confirm with your accountant before invoicing.

Can you ship chocolate without damage?

Yes. Depending on route and season, we ship it in a reefer container or under cold chain to keep it from melting or blooming.
