We are a 3PL in Texas. Our client ships to Monterrey and was told they need a "transfer". What does the transfer do and how is the crossing coordinated?

How does a US–Mexico border crossing with a transfer carrier work?
1 answer
Kold Gold answer Kold Gold At many crossings a carrier's trailer does not travel from one country to the other with the same tractor. The "transfer" is the drayage tractor that takes the trailer across the bridge between the US-side yard and the Mexican-side yard. The typical flow:
1. The US carrier drops the trailer at a border yard. 2. Paperwork is filed on both sides (US export with its broker; Mexican import with the customs broker). 3. The transfer carrier crosses the trailer and goes through customs inspection. 4. A Mexican carrier takes it to the final destination with its Carta Porte.
Kold Gold operates at every Mexican border customs office (Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana, Cd. Juárez, Mexicali, Piedras Negras, Matamoros, Reynosa, Nogales and more); clearance is signed by its allied customs broker. Crossing times are estimates and vary by day and time.
